Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia on Wednesday left the country for Egypt where they will kick start their 2021 Caf Confederation campaign.

Gor are lined up to play against Ahly Merowe of Sudan at the New Suez Stadium on Friday from 8pm (East African Time) behind closed doors.

The match will be played in Egypt as Sudan lacks a Caf-approved stadium to host continental matches.

After kick starting their FKF Premier League campaign on a winning note by edging out KCB last month, Gor will play Merowe in the second preliminary round, having been given a bye for the first round.

While K’Ogalo got a bye for the first round, which was played last month, Ahly Merowe qualified for this stage after edging out Atlabara of South Sudan 4-0 on aggregate.

K’Ogalo travelled with 17-players with their new acquisitions barred from featuring in the match.

By the time the CAF window for transfers was closing, the Kenyan champions were not able to register new players due to a FIFA transfer ban.

This is because Gor were hit by Fifa ban from registering new players over a debt owed to their former British coach Steven Polack and Tanzanian winger Dickson Ambudo.

Last season, Gor participated in the CAF Champions League where they were knocked out in the first round after an 8-1 aggregate loss to Belouizdad of Algeria.

The 19-time Kenya champions were then relegated to the Confederation Cup where they were knocked out again after a 3-2 defeat to Napsa Stars of Zambia.
