Omalla brace inspires Gor Mahia past KCB in league opener

Benson Omalla scored a first half brace as Gor Mahia defeated KCB 2-1 in the opening match of the 2021-2022 FKF Premier League match played at Thika Stadium on Saturday.

Omalla gave Gor the lead in the seventh minute after tapping in a rebound from close range after Sammy Onyango’s curling effort hit the cross bar.

Two minutes later, the former Western Stima striker stretched KÓgalo’s lead to 2-0 after heading past Gabriel Andika in goal for KCB from a corner set piece delivered by Peter Lwasa.

With a two goal advantage, Gor kept on pressing for a third goal which they almost scored in the 17th minute when Omalla combined with Onyango who forced a decent save from Andika.

 However, against the run of play, KCB pulled one goal back in the half an hour mark when Henry Onyango tapped in from close range after a poor clearance from Harun Shakava.

The match headed to the break with Gor lading the bankers 2-1, a score line that would stand till full time as the former champions hit the ground running in the new season.

Gor headed into the match seeking redemption after heir midweek defeat to Tusker who won the FKF Super Cup.
