Shikangwa on a hat-trick as Vihiga Queens advance to semis

Jentrix Shikangwa scored a hat-trick to inspire Vihiga Queens to a thrilling 8-0 win over New Generation of Zanzibar in the final Group B Caf women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers match played at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.

The win saw the Kenyan representatives’ advance to the semifinals of the competition where they are set to play Simba Queens from Tanzania.

 Teresa Engesha bagged a brace in the match that witnessed seven goals scored in the second half with four getting in in additional time.

The win saw Vihiga finish second in Group B with six points 17 goals behind Commercial Bank of Ethiopia who topped with nine points. CBE will face Ugandan Lady Doves in semis.

Shikangwa broke the deadlock in the 18th minute after being put through by Joan Nabirye to score between the legs of keeper Zuena Yasin for Vihiga to lead 1-0

Goals would however run dry onwards as the Zanzibar team held off Vihiga who ok a narrow 1-0 lead at the break.

However, in the final half, it took Engesha six minutes to double the lead for the hosts with a neat header past a diving Yasin.

Shikangwa completed her brace moments later after tapping in from close range to stretch Vihiga’s lead to 3-0.

Mercyline Anyango made it 4-0 at the hour mark with a 30 yard strike to firmly confirm Vihiga Queens ‘semifinals status.

Two minutes from time, Maurine Achieng headed in Vihiga’s fifth goal of the day before substitute Kebedi Robai made it 6-0 with another long range shot from the right win.

Engesha would also grab her brace after founding herself unmarked to slot in past a charging Yasin before the star of the match Shikangwa completed the rout with her third goal of the match which sealed an impressive 8-0 win.
