Posta Rangers on Tuesday put breaks on Tusker FC’s title ambitions after narrowly edging out the Football Kenya Federation Premier League leaders 1-0 in a tight match played at Ruaraka Grounds.

Substitute Josephat Lopaga solo goal ended Tusker’s five match unbeaten run and blowing the title race open once again.

The win, Posta’s first since 2011 against the breweries saw the Mail-men remain 13th with 21 points, eight points above the relegation zone.

Tusker remained top with 38 points, two points behind KCB and AFC Leopards who have an opportunity to leapfrog the breweries on Wednesday when they play against Bidco United and Sofapaka respectively.

In Mombasa, Ulinzi Stars stretched their unbeaten run to four matches after thrashing hosts Bandari FC at Mbaraki Stadium.

John Kago gave the Army Men the lead after 10 minutes of play before Boniface Onyango doubled the scores from the spot after Masita Masuta was fouled in the box to take a 2-0 lead at the breather.

In the final half, William Wadri converted from the spot to reduce Ulinzi’s advantage to one goal before Omar Boraafya sealed the win for the visitors with a 53rd-minute goal.

The win saw Ulinzi go seventh with 27 points, a point behind Bandari.

In Bungoma, Gabriel Wandera and Gaetan Masha both missed two penalties in the 97th-minute penalty as Vihiga United survived a last-minute scare to edge out Nzoia Sugar 2-1 in an entertaining match played at Sudi Stadium.

Wandera was first to take the first penalty that was saved by Vihiga’s goalkeeper Moustapha before center referee ordered a retake.

Masha would again miss salvaging a point for Nzoia after his attempt from 12 yards hit the post.

Lawrence Luvanda had given Vihiga a 1-0 lead at the break after converting from the spot in the 45th minute before Nzoia’s Benjamin Muchuma restored parity in the 66th minute to tie the scores at 1-1.

Two minutes later, Dennis Wafula volleyed from 20 yards to restore Vihiga’s lead, a goal that would seal the visitors win.

The win saw Vihiga move out of the relegation zone.
