Football Kenya Federation Premier League clubs on Friday received their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi.

The vaccination process facilitated by FKF in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Health saw Wazito FC lead 11 football clubs in getting their players vaccinated.

Wazito and Bidco United players were first to be vaccinated at 9 am with defending champions Gor Mahia and Kariobangi Sharks following suit at 10 am.

KCB and Mathare United acquired their second dose at 11 am. At noon, Nairobi City Stars and Posta Rangers received their second dose.

Sofapaka and Tusker got vaccinated at 1 pm as AFC Leopards closed the vaccination process in Nairobi at 2 pm.

Gor Mahia coach Vaz Pinto said the vaccine was important for the team’s health.

“The Covid jab is important for my players and the technical bench if we are to beat the virus. It is important for teams to get the second vaccine to be more comfortable,” Vaz Pinto said.

On the form and performance of the team, Pinto said he is pleased with the players input both in the cup and league.

“We are currently playing well wherein our nine consecutive wins we have scored 11 goals and conceded only one goal which is a good sign for the team which I expect to continue working hard," he added.

“We have to maintain and work to maintain our momentum. It’s very important to stay with the leaders which are important for us. We will fight to be champions,”

Gor will face Bidco in the semifinals of the FKF Cup on Sunday and Pinto is confident they will progress to the finals

“We know Bidco is a tough side with good players but we are a team inform now. We will respect them and we believe we can beat them and then see what next in the finals,” he said.

Regarding June 30, FKF top of the table requirement to be able to qualify for the CAF Champions League, Pinto said they are focusing on winning their next three matches and then wait for the outcome of the teams ahead of them who will play more games than them.

Bidco United coach Anthony Akhulia said they will face Gor Mahia with much respect and are not intimidated by the record Kenyan champion’s status.

“We are motivated enough in terms of how we are playing. Every much for us is like a final and we are going to play, enjoy ourselves and try to win the match,” Akhulia said.

Gor will face Bidco United in the last four while AFC Leopards will take on Equity Bank in the other semi-final.

The semi-finals will be staged as a double-header at Thika Sub County Stadium on Sunday.
