Defending Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) champions Gor Mahia will highlight the return to play in the local league when they take on Wazito at Kasarani Annex on May 12, in new fixtures released by the federation.

Also on the same day, former heavyweights AFC Leopards will take on slum boys Mathare United at Kasarani in another mouthwatering tie on Wednesday next week.

According to FKF, all Premier League clubs will be forced to play two matches in a one week in the new proposed fixtures aiming at matching pace with the FIFA calendar.

In the fixtures, rounds 17 will kick off from May 14 to May 16 before Gor and Mathare United play their rescheduled matches against Sofapaka and KCB on the midweek of May 19 and May 20 respectively.

Rounds 18 and 19 will see league matches played almost every day until May 29 before the league breaks for two weeks ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

FKF has set August 28th as the final leg of the premier league, a move that will contradict with Confederation of African Football (Caf) demand of submission of Kenyan teams set to participate in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup competitions.

FKF Premier League was suspended on March 26th together with other sporting activities in the country as a measure to curb rising cases of the third wave of COVID-19 infections.

Hope was, however, restored earlier this month when President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the ban on May 1.
