Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Angel Gomes to leave Manchester United - after failing to agree a contract extension.

Gomes is out of contract on Tuesday and United boss Solskjaer said the lack of a breakthrough on a new deal means the promising 19-year-old is almost certain to leave.

Asked if Gomes would be leaving United, Solskjaer said: “To be honest, I have not heard from them last night or this morning.

“So it seems like they've not managed to agree, so the answer is probably short and 'yes' at the moment.

“I've got no news, so it doesn't look like it [that he will sign a new deal].”

Winger Gomes, who has made six appearances this season, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at United, who are keen to keep hold of him.

But the failure to come to an agreement over new terms means the youngster is set to leave United as a free agent when his contract is up on Tuesday.

On United's FA Cup semi-final draw against Chelsea, Solskjaer said: “We're delighted to be in the semis, delighted to be looking at the prospect of going to a final.

“We're going to Wembley for the semi-final, against a team we've played so many times. I've been here 18 months and we seem to have played Chelsea every other weekend!

"So it's a game we're looking forward to.”

Manchester United beat Norwich in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, but needed extra time to get the better of the Canaries.

Harry Maguire came to the rescue for the Red Devils with a goal in the final minutes to stop the game going to penalties.
