Mwachiro latest to join race for FKF top job

Former Football Kenya Federation Deputy CEO Herbert Mwachiro believes he is the right candidate to replace incumbent Nick Mwendwa as FKF president ahead of the yet to be confirmed FKF elections.

The experienced sports commentator becomes the latest entrant in the crowded race for the top football seat.

Mwachiro will now battle it out with the immediate former Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga, ex-FKF president Sam Nyamweya and Gor Mahia CEO Lordick Aduda to unseat his former FKF boss Nick Mwendwa.

Having served as the Events Director for Kenya’s failed bid to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, Mwachiro feels he is well-positioned to transform Kenya’s football.

“My decision to run for the top football seat in the country is informed by the desire to transform the football industry to a sustainable sector that will put Kenya where it deserves to be on the continental and global football map,” said Mwachiro.

“While meaningful progress has been made under different administrations over the past decade, the main stakeholders of the game, who are players continue to suffer and struggle to make ends meet.”

He added: “The game is not well packaged thus the need to bring in the much needed professionalism through my marketing background and vast experience in the corporate world. We need to package our game in a way that will make it attractive to partners and ensure our players make a meaningful living from football.”

“Kenya deserves to be a regular competitor at the Africa Cup of Nations because we have talent in abundance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mwachiro has praised the government for cushioning athletes from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s a great step from Sports CS Amina, it shows that the government is listening and this is the kind of proactive leadership that sportspersons have been waiting for.”
