Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has penned a request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) asking to postpone the African Cup of Nations pitting Kenya's Harambee Stars against Comoros slated for March 25, due to Coronavirus fears.

The federation cited 'Government directive' as the reason for penning the request, the State having banned conferences and meetings consisting of more than 15-people of international nature for a month.

Flights from specific affected countries by the virus have also been denied entry into the country.

Speaking to Game Yetu FKF media person Ken Okaka confirmed that the federation president Nick Mwendwa had written to CAF seeking postponement of the clash.

“It is true, our president has written to CAF asking for a postponement of the clash after the Government's directive concerning the coronavirus,“said Okaka.

This development comes amid claims the federation has asked for the postponement of the match due to the possible absence of key foreign-based players in the squad.

Last week Stars coach Francis Kimanzi named 16 local players to join camp ahead of the qualifying match, leaving out foreign-based players due to travel ban imposed by State.

Also affected by the government directive is the Kenya U-16s' trip to Spain.

The team was set to participate at the MIC tournament in readiness for the AFCON qualifiers and CECAFA matches but FKF has cancelled the trip.
