AGM adopts new code ahead of FKF polls in December

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will conduct its elections in the next two months under a new code that introduces rules some contestants might not meet.

The code raises the bar too high for those wishing to contest the top post requiring them, among other things, to have a running mate and pay Sh400,000 nomination fee.

Delegates unanimously approved the code during the seventh Annual General Meeting held in Nairobi yesterday. Mwendwa said the code was expected to help bring in good managers in the sport.

“We have had a lot of problems in the federation in the past and this code is meant to address those challenges,” he said.

The meeting also approved an electoral board to be headed by university don Edwin Wamukoya. Other members are Eunice Lumallasa, Abdi Said, Ellyna Shiveka and Robert Nyakundi.

At the same time, Mwendwa said suspended Chief Executive Robert Muthomi will not be coming back.

“We asked him to step aside and the matter will be concluded in the next two weeks.

“However, at the same time we have agreed with him not to come back,” he said. Barry Otieno who was appointed in an acting capacity will continue serving in the position.

Two FKF National executive officials have announced they are stepping down and will not contest in up-coming elections.

Chris Amimo (Nairobi) and Mohammed Muller (North Eastern) will not defend their positions.
