Virgil van Dijk started at the back for Holland in their Nations League semi-final clash with England on Thursday, just five days after winning the Champions League with Liverpool.

The centre-back lined up alongside the highly-rated Matthijs de Ligt, and once again showed why he's considered one of the best defenders on the planet.

But not everyone was delighted to see the Dutchman in Portugal on Thursday afternoon, which upset more than a few Liverpool supporters.

Whenever the centre-back touched the ball in the first half he was booed by the England fans packed inside the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques.

To be fair the England supporters appeared to be booing every Holland player in a bid to put them off their game.

But as aforesaid, some Liverpool fans weren't too happy about the gesture from the nation's supporters and took to social media to complain.

"England fans starting to boo at Van Dijk, actually hope he scores a hat-trick," wrote one Liverpool supporter, while another added: "They can boo Van Dijk all they like, he will destroy England. We Scousers can watch and laugh at little England."

A third wrote: "Is Van Dijk getting booed because he's the best centre-back in the world?" and a fourth concluded: "Are the English fans that are booing Van Dijk going to boo Trent Alexander-Arnold as well? I'm so confused right now."
