The Dutchman, now at Feyernoord, admitted that he had been in professional football for 18 years and would like to retire when he’s age 36.

"When I have to stop? That is probably at the end of this season. I will be 36 years old and will have been a professional for 18 years. From the age of five, I've only been involved in football," said Van Persie as seen on several news outlets.

Van Persie (35) had a spell of success in England, joining Arsenal in 2004 to replace the then prolific Dennis Bergkamp – and going on to score 96 goals in 194 appearances.

He stayed at Arsenal for eight seasons before moving to Manchester United in 2012. For the Red Devils, he scored 48 goals in 86 appearances, his best years, you could say, under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He moved to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in 2015 where he scored 25 goals in 57 appearances.

At Feyenoord this season, he’s already made 16 appearances and scored 9 goals.

He has also scored 50 goals for his national team.
