RIVALRY RELOADED: Tusker face Gor Mahia in Super Cup today

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker and Gor Mahia will be looking for the first silverware of the season when they clash in today’s KPL Super Cup match at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium.

There is no financial reward for the winners today like in the previous editions, but both teams will be expected to put down an early marker before the KPL starts next weekend.

The Super Cup has always been sponsored by Dstv, but this year KPL were unable to secure a sponsor and it means the players will only have medals to show off at the end of the game.

It also means that fans will have to travel in large numbers to Afraha Stadium as the match will not be live on TV.

The season opener is being played in Nakuru for the first time owing to the unavailability of Nyayo and Kasarani stadia.

Despite nothing to play for, however, there is no love lost between Tusker and Gor Mahia considering that the two clubs fought all the way for the KPL last season.

The demanding Green Army will want nothing short of victory from Gor as that will at least go a long way in easing the pain of seeing Tusker lifting the league title last season.

Ahead of the match Gor Mahia captain Musa Mohammed has admitted that it will not be easy for his side mostly due to the fact that it will be their first competitive fixture.

“We have had a long break from competitive football and this therefore makes it a tricky affair for us.

However, we have had good preparation which should give us a good result on Sunday,” he said.

Gor Mahia have been under a lot of pressure after a run of poor results in pre-season.
