Gow leaves behind wife Joolz, son Chris, daughters Rachael and Jennifer, nine grandchildren and a great grandchild.

A Bristol City statement sent its condolences the Gow's family, while an official Manchester City statement described Gow as a "cult hero".

Son Chris said: “He fought cancer all the way, just like he did on the pitch, he never gave up on anything.

“He was a tough-tackling Scot, which everybody in the terraces loved. He was a real 110 percenter, in everything he did."

He added: “I absolutely could not have asked for a better dad.

“He has been there for all of us; we are all completely lost because he was the most loving father.

“We have never lived more than a mile away from each other as we are such a close knit family.”
