Kai Rooney, the six-year-old son of Manchester United and England captain Wayne, is beginning what could be his own journey into top-flight football.

The sporty youngster has reportedly joined the Red Devils' youth set-up after attending training sessions at the club's Cliff ground with the youth development squad.

Kai is no stranger to the big stage, having acted as a mascot with his father at matches including the 2014 Euro qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley and in 2015 at Old Trafford against Tottenham.

But it looks like the little guy could be primed to make his own name for himself.

Kai isn't alone as the son of a club icon, with Michael Carrick's son Jacey also among their ranks - and their famous dads often play chauffer.

The Sun quote a source from within the club saying the Rooney and Carrick senior "really get into it when they bring their their boys down".

“The kids seem to love it and have been coming down regularly in the week to train with the young development squad.

“It’s a bit funny because both their dads aren’t playing as much any more but these guys could be the club’s stars of the future.”

Football certainly isn't Kai's only focus. He's also shown an aptitude for golf with his father previously posting his pride at his son getting an award.

The proud dad posted a photo of Kai holding a golf certificate with the message: “Well done to my little mate on his first golf certificate!”
