Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is ready to accommodate brands and individuals who are willing to support football in the country.

The federation has said the era of shortchanging sponsors, donors and well-wishers is over and, instead, it is welcoming them with open arms to come forward and have a stake in the game.

“The federation is ready to listen to corporates. Please come forward and help us build this beautiful game,” FKF President Nick Mwendwa said.

Mwendwa was speaking at the SportPesa offices in Nairobi where he officially handed over the trophy won by the betting firm at the just-concluded Discovery Sport Industry Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, where SportPesa bagged the Best African sponsorship award.

The annual event took place at the Sandton Convention Centre for the third consecutive year in 2016.

“It’s a great honour for SportPesa to emerge victorious in this category through the SportPesa Premier League sponsorship. The federation would also like to congratulate our very own Safaricom for being nominated and coming close in the awards with the Kenya Athletics Series brand,” said Mwendwa.

SportPesa Chief Marketing Officer Kester Shimonyo said the achievement makes SportPesa the first Kenyan brand to win the Best African Sponsorship award.

“We are glad and happy to achieve this mileage in these awards that aims to celebrate the best work off the field in the business of sport and showcase everything that is great about the African sport industry,”Shimonyo said.

At the same time, Mwendwa urged sponsors and clubs to cultivate accountability on sponsorship deals which they are signing.
