Rio Ferdinand has revealed how Alexis Sanchez turned his sons into Arsenal fans.

The former Manchester United and England defender took his lads to watch his former side in action at the Emirates before the international break as Arsenal ran riot.

Sanchez was the star of the show, scoring twice in a first-half blitz as his impressive form continued.

And Ferdinand, now a pundit for BT Sport, admitted the Chilean's display left a lasting impression on his sons.

"My boys came to the game in Manchester United tops, but they left asking for Alexis Sanchez shirts," he told BreatheSport.

Sanchez bagged his sixth goal of the season in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Watford on Saturday as they went second in the Premier League table.

He had been troubled with a minor hip injury and after his international excursions, it was suggested he could start on the bench at Vicarage Road.

Boss Arsene Wenger admitted Sanchez's showing in training on Friday soon changed his mind.

He added: "“There are periods when a player is in a scoring moment.

“To interrupt sometimes the flow can disturb this. And for us the best way to prepare for Tuesday is to win the game."
