The record that puts Wenger in Jose's shadow

EPL: It's the third-placed team in the Barclays Premier League against the club in fourth, but there is another intriguing strain to this one: Arsene Wenger's Arsenal have never beaten a team managed by Jose Mourinho in nine previous meetings. The Portuguese has tasted victory on five occasions, with Chelsea drawing four times against Arsenal under his management.

'It's not me against Wenger,' protested Mourinho on Friday, saying it is 'my Chelsea against his Arsenal'. But the history between this two great managers would suggest otherwise. There appears to be something approaching mutual respect between the pair nowadays, but that was not always the way. Here, Sportsmail looks back at 10 flash points between Wenger and Mourinho as the Arsenal boss bids to make it 10th time lucky on Monday night.

1. After wrestling the Premier League title from Wenger's 'Invincibles' team - or 'buying it', according to some in certain parts of north London - Mourinho took a pot shot at Arsenal's vice chairman David Dein. The Chelsea boss argued Wenger's ally should not be on the board at Arsenal and the FA and said Arsenal always got a better deal when it came to the fixtures list.

'I am not concerned about how Chelsea are viewed morally,' said Mourinho. 'What does concern me is that we are treated in a different way to other clubs. 'Some clubs are treated as devils, some are treated as angels. I don’t think we are so ugly that we should be seen as the devil and I don’t think Arsene Wenger and David Dein are so beautiful that they should be viewed as angels.'

2.  In October 2005 Mourinho accused Wenger of being a 'voyeur' with a 'sickness', someone with a 'big telescope' who always 'speaks, speaks, speaks' about Chelsea instead of concentrating on his team's own poor form. Wenger considered taking legal action over the 'out of order' comments, which he branded 'disrespectful'.
