Cereals are nutritional powerhouses that cannot be ignored, sorghum being one of them. This plant is known for its ability to withstand harsh weather conditions, making it an important crop in arid regions.

Its ability to grow with minimal water and in challenging environments makes it a crucial crop for food security in regions highly affected by climate change.

It produces small round seeds that can vary in colour from white to red, brown, or even black. The seeds can be ground to give flour for baking or making porridge. In addition, they can be used as whole grains in salads.

Sorghum seeds do not only benefit humans but also livestock. Due to their high nutritional content, they are used as a significant component of livestock feed. Sorghum is also used in the production of alcoholic beverages, adhesives, and even biodegradable packaging.

In terms of human health, the fiber, potassium, and antioxidants in sorghum support cardiovascular health by lowering cholesterol levels and maintaining healthy blood pressure.
It also has several antioxidant properties.
