Today we make assorted filled bombolones. A bombolone is an Italian-filled doughnut eaten as a snack food and dessert.

Ingredients:

2 & 1/2 cups flour

1 & 1/2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon instant yeast

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 egg

3/4 cup water/milk

2 tablespoons butter

Method:

In a bowl, add the flour, 1 tablespoon sugar and salt. Mix and set aside. In a separate bowl add warm water, half a tablespoon sugar and yeast.

Mix and let the dough rise. Once risen, add the egg and mix well, then pour into the flour mixture. Now knead until it all comes together, then add the butter. Knead until the butter is combined with the dough.

Cover the bowl with cling film and let the dough rise. Once the dough has risen, knead and portion it into balls. Let them rise once again.

Once the dough balls are ready, deep fry them over medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Remove from the oil and place them on a paper towel.

While they are still hot, coat them with sugar and cinnamon (optional).

When they have cooled, add a filling of your choice. Enjoy!

For the filing;

Mixed custard cream, whipped cream with lotus spread (topped with biscoff).

Custard cream with cooked strawberry sauce (topped with fresh strawberry).

Hazelnut spread (topped with Ferrero).
