Anguka Nayo video hits over 1.7 million streams in 10 days

In a now viral video, a lone protestor in a blue jacket is seen moving at the front of what looks like a stand off between police and Kenyan Gen Z protestors. The video would have been unremarkable had it not been for the strange but mesmerising dance moves the protester is displaying. At some point, the riot policeman closest to him pushes him back with his baton but our dancer stays on beat, "Anguka nayo!" urges the accompanying audio, perfectly complementing his dance moves. Following the Finance Bill protests, President William Ruto not only halted the Finance Bill but later fired his entire cabinet. Anguka Nayo quickly became the anthem to the fall of the high and mighty Cabinet Secretaries, many of whom flaunt money while majority of Kenyan youth grapple with joblessness and high cost of living. It's ironic that former Cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba, who was recorded dancing to the song, experienced the true meaning of the phrase a few days later when his position was declared vacant. What started off as TikTok trend has quickly morphed into the song of the moment, racking up 1.7 million views on YouTube as of today, just 11 days since it's release. TNX.africa caught up with Wadagliz duo, Kantel Mdagliz and ManaaZ to discuss the inspiration behind the now viral hit song...

How did the two of you meet? We met in school, in Form One, we would just sit in class rapping, doing freestyle battles on Saturdays and that sort of thing.

Did the Finance Bill protests inspire the songwriting and creation fo the song?
