Hundreds gather to bid farewell to Brian Chira

Today, hundreds of fans and friends of Brian Chira gathered at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary to pay their respects and view his body.

Chira, known for his famous quotes like 'Kama wewe si pesa huwezi nipea stress' and his tagline, 'I am Chira, Brian Chira,' tragically passed away in a hit-and-run accident last weekend.

His remains have already left the Kenyatta University mortuary en route to Githunguri, Kiambu for burial, where he will be laid to rest alongside his grandmother.

Baba Talisha, in an earlier statement, announced that there would be no viewing of the body after it left the mortuary. Additionally, Chira will be buried in a graduation gown per his grandmother's request.

The circumstances surrounding Chira's death are under investigation by the police. Reports indicate that he was hit by a speeding car in the Karuri area, with his body collected from the scene and taken to the City Mortuary before being transferred to the Kenyatta University mortuary.

Photos shared on social media showed crowds heading to Githunguri, Kiambu, to pay their final respects to Chira.

The TikTok community in Kenya has been particularly supportive, raising over Sh8 million for Chira's grandmother.

However, some Kenyans expressed mixed sentiments about the nature of support during and after Chira's passing, urging for more genuine expressions of care and concern while individuals are still alive.

Today they have came out in hundreds of thousands for Brian Chira Burial. Indeed Brian Chira was a movement. Isn't this what we call love?" wrote Omwamba.

Sally Bolo remarked, "Kudos to the TikTok community in Kenya for rallying together in an awe-inspiring show of love and support for Brian Chira after his passing. But why does it take tragedy to spark such incredible generosity? Don't let us be remembered only in death; let's show love and support while we are still alive!"
