The Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration has said the 20,000-seater Embu stadium will be completed on time to host this year's Madaraka Day celebrations.

Dr Raymond Omollo who led a team from various state departments on an inspection tour of the grounds, said the contractors will be compelled to work day and night to beat the deadlines.

The PS was accompanied by Governor Cecily Mbarire and the Principal secretaries for Defence, Roads, ICT, Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Environment and Culture.

Eastern regional commissioner Paul Rotich was also in the entourage. The Madaraka Day luncheon will be hosted at his residence.

"I cannot quantify the costs but the work has already started which is at the documentation stage," the PS said, adding that the theme will be Universal Healthcare as announced by President William Ruto on Jamhuri Day last year.

He added that he expected the completed works to be a good example of what can be achieved when national and county governments work together.

Governor Mbarire said the Sport city will bring several opportunities to the residents. "we are extremely proud to have been selected to host the event".

Local leaders present were optimistic that the Sport city will create up to 5,000 employment opportunities while vowing to support the National government.

"I urge the local youth to present themselves to participate in various projects that will take place. Said Gitonga Mukunji the MP Manyatta where the sport city will be built.

The leaders further observed that the National Celebrations will bring other developments that include the upgrade of the Moi stadium and other supporting infrastructure that will see Embu County grow economically.
