Lions beat Kongonis in Harilal tourney

Fresh from winning the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Super League title, champions Stray Lions beat Kongonis by 12 runs to launch their Harilal Memorial Tournament campaign on a high.

Lions won the toss and elected to bat registering 146 for 8. Abraham Vadada was the lead scorer for Lions making 65 runs off 44 balls, Jay Mehta was second with 24 off 16 while captain Hiren Varaiya made 16 off 16.

Kongonis’ David Waters grabbed three wickets for 28 runs in four overs in the Lions innings. Dominic Wesonga and Dolla Ambala had one wicket each for 15 and 23 runs in three and four overs respectively.

Chasing 146 for 8, Kongonis fell short by 12 runs managing 134 for 8 with Tony Ochieng leading their score with 49 off 48, Chris Childs made 33 off 34 whereas Wesonga made 13 off 9. Skipper Varaiya bowled economically taking wickets for 17 runs in four overs.

At Eastleigh High School, defending champions Kanbis won by 115 runs against Obuya Academy. Santi Raghvani hit a century as Kanbis made 260 for 5. Raghvani was impressive making 110(44) while Ramesh Mepani made 52(24).
