Kisumu's Jomo Kenyatta Stadium witnessed a spectacular display of football prowess as Obunga FC and Plateau Queens claimed victory in the male and female categories of the Chapa Dimba tournament's Fourth Edition, showcasing the immense talent of Nyanza region's youth.

In a thrilling finale, Obunga FC battled against PASC Langa FC in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

After a hard-fought 1-1 draw, the game proceeded to a tense penalty shootout, where Obunga FC emerged triumphant with a 4-2 win, securing the championship title and a prestigious Shilings 1 million award from sponsor Safaricom PLC.

"We've achieved something incredible today," exclaimed Evans Oketch, Obunga FC's principal coach, overcome with joy. "This victory is a testament to the dedication and resilience of our players."

On the female front, Plateau Queens delivered a dominating performance against Barcelona FC from Laikipia County, securing a commanding 4-0 victory. Emily Morang'a, the 18-year-old striker who scored the opening goal, praised her team's unity and determination in overcoming their formidable opponents.

"Our opponents pushed us hard, especially in the first half," Morang'a recounted. "But through teamwork and determination, we achieved our goal."

Emily, a former student of Nyakach Girls High School, expressed her aspirations to join the National Super League, fueled by her passion for football and her team's success in various tournaments, including previous editions of Chapa Dimba.

Plateau Queens' chief coach, Lucas Musungu, hailed the victory as a milestone for women's football, expressing optimism about future opportunities for his talented team.

"This win opens doors for us," Musungu declared confidently. "We aim to elevate women's football to new heights in our country."

The dual triumph of Obunga FC and Plateau Queens ignited celebrations across Kisumu, with fans and local leaders commending the teams for their exceptional performances.

Governor Professor Anyang' Nyong'o extended his gratitude to the victorious clubs, promising continued support for youth talent development in the region.

"This achievement fills us with pride," Governor Nyong'o remarked. "We will invest more in identifying and nurturing young sports talents."

Millicent Alaka, Principal of Nyakach Girls High School, hailed the Plateau Queens as a source of school pride, lauding their outstanding achievements in football competitions.
