KDF fire from all cylinders to capture Siaya national boxing leg

With the conclusion of the second of the National Boxing League in Siaya over the weekend, former champions Kenya Defence Forces emerged winners after accumulating 26 points.

The three-day-event hosted at Karapul Catholic Hall saw the soldiers beat defending champions Kenya Police by one point to narrow the gap to eight points in the chase for the league title.

KDF had 11 boxers in the final, with six winning their matches, while Police had eight pugilists, where six won their bouts.

The policemen won the first leg, which was held in Vihiga two weeks ago with 30 points ahead of KDF, who posted 21.

After the weekend's event, Police still lead the standings with 55 points ahead of KDF's 47, Nairobi County have 18 while former champions Kenya Prisons have 11 points.

Kibra, an upcoming side are fifth with nine points, while Siaya and Vihiga are tied on five points each.

Nakuru have four, Kisumu three, while Busia, Trans Nzoia and Kentrack are tied on two points apiece. Homa Bay, Mbaraki, Kajiado and Githurai 44 all have a point each.

Some of the KDF boxers who won their matches include bantamweight (54kg) Dennis Muthama, featherweight (57kg) Pauline Chege, middleweight (75kg) Edwin Okong'o and light heavyweight (80kg) Chrispin Ochanda.
