Kisumu Day were Sunday crowned the 2022 Kisumu County Secondary School football champions as upsets marked the end of the Term II games in different counties.

Top guns in Kakamega, Nairobi and Kwale counties fell as new champions emerged.

Kisumu Day saw off Kasagam Secondary 4-0 in the final to retain the title they won in 2019 and book the single spot to the Nyanza Regional games set for Thursday in Homa Bay County.

The story was however different in Kakamega, Nairobi and Kwale where giants Kakamega High School, Dagoretti High School and Shimba Hills failed to win the football titles.

Green Commandos were knocked out in the semifinals after losing 2-1 by little-known Mwitoti Secondary School.

Mwitoti proceeded to win the Kakamega County football title after seeing off Shanderema 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Mwitoti goalkeeper Cedrick Okumu saved the penalty before Dennis Wafula scored the winner.

"We thank God for reaching this far and enabling us win our first ever County title since the school was established. The boys played their hearts out, we look forward to writing another history in the regionals, " said Mwitoti coach Dismas Wanjawa.

The girls' title was won by Mwira after they beat Nangili 1-0.

In Nairobi, Dagoretti surrendered the title to Waylight High School. Dagoretti were beaten 3-2 in the semifinals by Highway School while Waylight stopped Jamhuri High 2-1.

Waylight then went on to stun Highway 1-0 in the final.

In girl's football, Dagoretti Mixed were crowned Nairobi champions after beating Beth Mugo while Nyakach Girls and Jera Mixed won the titles in Kisumu and Siaya Counties respectively.

In Kwale, Mwavumbo were crowned the new champions after beating Kinondo 4-3 on penalties (1-1 normal time).

Football giants Shimba Hills were knocked out at the semis stage when they lost 4-1 on penalties to Kinondo. Another football giant Kaya Tiwi lost 2-1 to Mwavumbo.

In Siaya County, 2016 East Africa champions Barding won the title.

In hockey, five-time East Africa champions Sinyolo Girls and Kisumu Day will represent Kisumu in the regional games.

In boys' basketball in Siaya, Maranda won the title while St Peter's Mumias thrashed Kakamega High 103-31.

Butere Girls demolished Eregi 120-28 to win the Kakamega County girls' title as Katolo Secondary dethroned champions Sinyolo Girls in Kisumu.
