Nyanchama claims Kabete Open trophy

Helped by a deflected shot on the par-4 first, Mercy Nyanchama claimed an assailable lead to clinch the overall victory during the Kabete Open tournament at the par-72 Vet Lab Sports Club, over the weekend.

Nyanchama’s second shot found the green from the 210-yard mark with a so-lucky bounce that was deflected by her teammate, former Lady Captain Rachel Ndei’s ball, and holed out for leave her flight in awe.

Playing off handicap-4, Nyanchama carded 1-over par-36 on her front nine and 3-over par-39 from her back nine for a total of 76 gross to shine in the meet.

Trailing her was Golf Park’s handicap 8, Nancy Wairimu, who posted a score of 79 gross to win in Division A, edging out her club mate Naomi Wafula, who was playing off handicap 4, on countback. Maria Torado on 80 gross was third.

In Division B, Mukami Wangai of Limuru Country Club won with 96 gross ahead of Priscilla Karobia, who had 99 gross, while Ruth Mwangi, on 71, was Nett winner. Idah Makoni finished second on a score of 75 Nett.

Former Kenya Ladies Golf Union chairman, Sarah Hoare, playing off handicap 17, was best Senior golfer with a score of 74 Nett.

Another amateur sensation, Ashley Awuor, was the Junior winner with 74 Nett.

In the subsidiary, Lee Njoroge playing off handicap 9, was the best Man player with 42 stableforsd points, while Aziz Mussaji was second with 38 stableford points.
