Legends to take charge of Eldoret City Marathon

Legendary athletes will take charge of affairs during the fourth edition of Eldoret City Marathon in April. 

According to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the legends, will be deployed to offer critical services in the technical committee before and during the marathon set for April 10 2022.

From retired track and road stars to top athletics coaches, the technical team led by race director, two-time Boston Marathon winner Moses Tanui, yesterday assigned the legends roles put in place to maintain the race's international status. 

According to the race's technical sub-committee, former 5000m world champion Benjamin Limo will be in charge of of logistics during this year's edition. 

"Japheth Kimutai (former 800m Commonwealth champion) has been assigned the role of coordinating ambulances and other emergency responses during the day of the race," Joseph Chemuren, a member of the technical team reported yesterday ahead of the race's 2022 official launch tomorrow. 

"We have surveyed the route to ensure that everything is in order ahead of the race."

He said Patrick Sang, marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge's coach will use his tactics to manage the finish line near the Zion Mall while Richard Metto, another trainer will be in charge of the course. 

LOC Chairman Andrew Chelogoi said registration of participants will kick off immediately after tomorrow's launch. 

"As a team we have agreed that the registration will close early to allow for preparations ahead of the race," he said.
