Limuru Golf and Country Club Captain Dennis Maara playing off -4 is the winner of Coronation & Bendor Trophy tournament played at the par-73 Nakuru Golf Club presented by Keringet and Fractional Warehouse.

Maara played a menacing but calculated game and returned a 2-under (71,76,70) 217 edging out his erstwhile rival and training partner Michael Karanga who is also St Andrews-Ndumberi Captain by a stroke at 1-under (74,71,73) 218.

With a solid round made up of five birdies, 11 pars and two bogies for a 3-under gross score.

"It is an amazing feeling to win such an old event like this especially on a course that I haven't played on for over 15 years. My focus now shifts to my home club for Limuru Open next month with the hope of participating in Magical Kenya Open either as an amateur or a pro, God willing," said an elated Maara.

Despite earning 100 points towards Kenya Amateur Golf Championship standings, Maara moved five spots up the leader board to second place behind Karanga who still holds the pole position after the Nakuru meet.

At the same tournament, Bernard Oduor of Ruiru Sports Club aced the par-three 15th hole and donated Sh10,000 toward Junior Golf Foundation JGF to celebrate his achievement.

It was an all Captain podium finish as Nakuru Golf Club Captain Luther Kamau came in third shooting +1(73,74,73) 220.

"This being the first event after the lockdown, it is evident that golfers were thirsty for competitive golf with 102 golfers including 81 elite golfers participating in the 54-hole tournament," said Peter Kiguru, Kenya Golf Union Chairman.
