Harambee Starlets striker Elizabeth Kioko Katungwa left the country yesterday for professional stint in Sweden.

Katungwa who won the 2018 Personality of the Year Awards (Sofa) girls most outstanding player award in the schools category has been signed by a top Swedish women football giants Dalheim FC.

Dalheim is under the tutelage of former Harambee Stars captain Robert Mambo.

The Kwale Starlets player left for Stockholm Sweden via Doha-Qatar aboard Qatar Airways after securing a lucrative deal with the Swedish club.

Katungwa joins another Kenyan Mary Kinuthia who has been with the Swedish side for the past two years.

Confirming the departure, Kwale Starlets head coach Mukasa Amboko said the 21-year-old Katungwa who has been instrumental to the Kwale based team was to join Dalheim in May but the traveling plans were put on hold when flights were cancelled.

“I have been conducting individual training to Katungwa online after the government banned sports activities as a measure to curb Covid-19 pandemic,” said Amboko.

“Sweden league resumed in June and I wanted Katungwa to be in form before joining her new club and that was why I had to engage her to strenuous online training for her to remain physically fit,” said the Amboko.

Katungwa had secured her visa in May before the ban on Kenyans travelling to Schengen countries.
