Arsenal got back to winning ways on Monday night, March 2, after beating Portsmouth F.C 2-0 in an F.A Cup clash at Fratton Park.

Goals in each half by defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and youngster Eddie Nketiah ensured the Gunners progressed to the quarterfinal, with head coach Mikel Arteta hailing his team for bouncing back after their disastrous Europa League exit at the hands of Olympiacos.

Arsenal Coach Mikel Arteta made nine changes from the side that lost to the Greeks, fielding a relatively young side captained by David Luiz.

Lucas Torreira left the pitch injured in the first half and was replaced by Dani Ceballos, who played a part in Sokratis’ goal – playing a low pass to Reiss Nelson who set up the Greek defender to fire into the net at the stroke of half time.

Reiss Nelson continued to terrorise the League One side in the second half as he set up Nketiah for the second goal.

Arsenal’s January signing Pablo Mari impressed on his first-team debut and played a vital role in ensuring the Gunners kept a clean sheet.

Arteta will be seeking to lift the trophy both as a player and a manager, having lifted the title when he captained Arsenal in 2014.

Here are some of the reactions from fans:

Arsenal don't get enough credit for their English talent coming through. We could have had a front 4 of Nelson, Nketiah, Saka and Willock yesterday. All have so much potential! — George Wicks. (@GeorgeWicks14) March 3, 2020

Early thoughts on Pablo Mari - Yes, its Portsmouth, but he looks very comfortable on the ball and seems adept picking players between the lines at ease. Did well with the aerial duels and overall was calm and composed. Of course, very early days still. — LTArsenal™ (@ltarsenal) March 2, 2020
