Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has compared attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil’s new hairstyle to that of USA star Megan Rapinoe.

The Gabon assassin took to Instagram posting: “Now I know how they [USA] won [the Women's World Cup]. Best haircut you ever had bruder.”

Ozil dyed his hair blond while in Arsenal's pre-season tour in the USA and his teammate Aubameyang has likened the former German international’s new look to that of Rapinoe.

Fans were shocked to see their number 10 with a blonde hairstyle on Tuesday, July 16 despite having normal hair on Monday night when he made a cameo during Arsenal’s friendly match against Colorado Rapids.

However, in a video posted on Instagram by Sports Direct Football, the star revealed why the real reason why he dyed his hair blond.

“I lost a bet. Or we lost a bet against Laca, crossbar challenge yeah. Me, Sead [Kolasinac] and Shkodran Mustafi so we lost altogether.” Ozil said in the video.

The attacking midfielder started in Arsenal International Champions Cup match against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich guiding the Gunners to a 2-1 victory in Los Angeles, United States.

The German has been heavily linked with a move out of the Emirates this summer with Turkish Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce reportedly pulling out of negotiations to sign the World Cup winner.

Arsenal legend Marc Overmars elsewhere believes that the club should offload the star and replace him with Ajax's Hakim Ziyech.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Overmars, who is the director of football at Ajax said: “I am a bit surprised that it is still so quiet around Hakim,”

“I think he has played better every year and his statistics are exceptionally good. Many clubs are increasingly looking at that,”

“They look more at the numbers than at what he shows and what is happening around him. I think Hakim Ziyech is better than Mesut Ozil,”

“I would say sell him (Ozil) and you will get Hakim for half. But they (Arsenal) didn't listen to me. So it could just be that he stays with Ajax.” Overmars added.
