Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could boost his chances of landing the Manchester United job on a permanent basis by reaching the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Solskjaer has enjoyed an excellent spell in interim charge of Old Trafford, winning his first eight games.

That run came to an end against Burnley in midweek but United fought back from 2-0 down to rescue a point.

United's form has led to calls for Solskjaer to get the job on a permanent basis but he is expected back at Molde at the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane remain the frontrunners for the gig but knocking out PSG could go a long way for Solskjaer.

The Sun reports United chiefs plan to offer Solskjaer the job if he can knock out the French champions.

Ed Woodward is believed to have held talks with Solskjaer at United's Catrrington base last week.

It is suggested Solskjaer was congratulated on the job he has done so far with the United players believing he will get the nod full time if United knock out PSG.

United are back in action on Sunday as they travel to the King Power to face Leicester.

The midweek draw with Burnley left them in sixth but United are now just two points off Arsenal in fourth.
