Egypt has won the bid to replace Cameroon as the host of this year's Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.

Egypt beat South Africa, the only other nation to submit a bid, in a vote held at a CAF executive committee meeting.

Cameroon, the original host nation was stripped of staging duties in November citing slow preparations.

Egypt will have just a few months to put the 15 June-13 July competition together.

They based their bid on providing the most profit for CAF with cheaper organisation than South Africa.

Egypt embarked on a severe marketing campaign to get support‚ while there was very little movement on that score from SAFA.

Egypt will host the tournament for the fifth time.
