Teammates, officials mourn fallen Nakuru RFC’s star
Six suspects in the murder of Kenyan international and Nakuru RFC player Mike Okombe at the weekend have surrendered to the police.
The six presented themselves to the Nakuru criminal investigations regional commander in the company of their lawyer, Kamau Chomba, before being handed over to the Rongai division for further investigation.
Okombe, 27, was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend after an alteration at a friend’s birthday party in Nakuru on Saturday night.
Confirming the arrest, Rongai OCPD Joseph Kioko said the suspects will be arraigned in court once police are through with their investigations.

“We have six suspects in custody, including the lady and those who were partying with the deceased (Mike Okombe). They surrendered today (Monday),” Kioko told The Standard Sports.
The girlfriend's lawyer said she did not know Okombe had been seriously injured.
“My client has not been on the run and she has always been available. No one even informed her of the death of her boyfriend until late in the day,” said Chomba.
Okombe began his club career at Western Bulls before shifting allegiance to Nakuru RFC, where he won back-to-back Kenya Cup titles during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
“Mike was uncompromising on the field, but quiet, unassuming, and loved off the field. His death is a big blow to the Kenyan rugby fraternity,” said Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Richard Omwela.
“We had intended for him to join up with the team after our tour of Hong Kong, but tragically this will not happen. Every game we play in Hong Kong will be in Mike’s memory,” added Simbas team manager, Simiyu Wangila, before the team departed for Hong Kong yesterday.
