Angola thrash Kenya in handball encounter

The national handball team was no match to an experienced Angola side as the 11th edition of Women’s Youth Africa Nations Championship entered the third day at the Kasarani Indoor Arena yesterday.
The home girls were humiliated 46-15 in their second encounter to register the highest goals of the tournament so far.
After securing a 22-22 draw against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their opening match on Thursday, it was not easy for the hosts who easily gave their opponents a second win of the championship.
Speaking to Feverpitch after the match on Friday evening, Kenya coach Victor Siero said his opponents were highly experienced compared to Kenya who had only four players who turn out for local regional club champions Nairobi Water Queens.
“Angola showed their experience the way they played. We are going back to the drawing board to plan on how we can contain them in the return match,” said the tactician.
This is the second win for Angola who defeated Egypt 33-32 in the opener on Thursday.
Despite starting with almost the same squad that started the first match led by captain Mitchell Adhiambo, Siero’s side failed to coordinate well and executed poor passes which their opponents utilised to their advantage.
The visitors dominated the encounter from the first whistle leading Kenya 5-1 in the seventh minute.
Siero called for the first technical time out trailing 3-7 but first breaks from Angola demoralised the hosts, who made simple passing mistakes. After the first quarter, Kenya was trailing 7-19 with Adhiambo earning a second two-minute suspension of the match and the hosts ended up with fewer players.
By the breather, Angola recorded a 24-7 lead with the hosts coming into the second half more stronger to extend the lead. Angola continued with the assault with 35-14 lead in the third quarter.
