KPL: Former Gor Mahia player Oronge tips Chemelil FC for premiership crown

Former Gor Mahia player Goro Oronge has tipped Chemelil Sugar to lift this season's Kenyan Premier League title.

"At the moment, Chemelil need the kind of support l saw Western Stima receive last Saturday during their KPL fixture against AFC Leopards at Moi Stadium, Kisumu," said Oronge who urged football fans from Kisumu County and Western Kenya to support Chemelil in their quest to lift the KPL title.

He, however, challenged the club's management committee and sponsor to raise the profile of the team to attract more fans by hosting some of their matches at Kisumu City's Moi Stadium.

Oronge, who praised Chemelil's defence manned by Charles Odero, James Omino and Willice Ouma, urged the team's head coach Mike Mururi to work on the team's striking force. He blamed most KPL clubs for concentrating on creating chances rather than goal-scoring systems.

The former Harambee Stars player recalled: "During my days in Gor under the then head coach Len Julians, virtually every player could score. It was not a case of individual players trying to shine and earn credit but winning those days had everything to do with teamwork and a good goal-scoring system in place."

Elsewhere, Chemelil FC chairman Robert Nyakundi, whose sentiments were echoed by the club's Team Manager Rajab Said, said: "The top KPL title contenders should know that Chemelil will settle for nothing less than the league title after registering an unprecedented unbeaten record in more than 10 matches and losing only three matches out of 24." 

Nyakundi, however, urged KPL referees to officiate fairly adding that "if we win or lose when officiating is above board, we will humbly honour outcome but not when officiating is suspect."

In another development, former Harambee Stars striker Apollo Otuoro has called for good management and preparations by the club officials to reap good results including winning the league this season.

Scores Chemelil fans including Caleb Ochieng', Dan Opinya, Jack Abiola, Noel Omondi, Leonard Odhiambo, Ofula Man-U, Fredrick Owino have vowed to organise solid support for the team during the  remaining league matches to ensure they lift the KPL title.
