Kiambu County government has intensified their efforts to turn the region into a sporting giant.

Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Machel Waikenda said that the government will work closely with all key stakeholders to bring more national events to Kiambu.

Waikenda said that Kiambu was ideal venue for staging rally events because it has beautiful sceneries including the sprawling tea and coffee plantations.

“Kiambu county government was ready to support motor sport races and any other national activities,” he said.

“We are working on a full year sporting calendar and I would like to take this opportunity to ask all stakeholders with any idea to float it to the government,” he said.

“The populace of Kiambu love sports and that was the reason we want to have activities from January all the way to December,” he said.

“The government intends to draw an action-packed calendar that will keep our sports fans fully entertained,” he said.

Waikenda reiterated that the county government will support any initiative aimed at reviving sports.

Waikenda was speaking during the Great Run Race that was meant to raise funds to support community work in the county last Saturday. The race was flagged of by Waikenda at Ruaka.

The Run Race attracted a big crowd and this was a testimony that the populace of Kiambu were ready to support sports activities in the region.

Kiambu has in the recent past hosted high profile events including Kiambu Ring Rally in which Governor William Kabogo participated.

The county also hosted second round of the Kenya National Rally Championships, Kiambu KCB Home Loan Rally- which was held in Migaa and proposed Tatu city estates a month ago.

Waikenda said the county now ranks  among the best areas where mega rallies can be held and asked Kenya Motor Sports Foundation to consider staging more events in the area.
