Bobby stays at Gor: Coach pens down three year deal with the KPL champions

KENYA: Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have tied down head coach Bobby Williamson with a three year deal to ward off interest from predetory clubs eyeing his signature.

The move came on the heels of sustained interest from Tanzanian club Yanga who last week claimed to have agreed personal terms with the Scott paving the way for him to cross the border.

Gor’s chairman Ambrose Rachier confirmed a new deal has been inked with the coach to keep him in Kenya until 2017.

“We have given Williamson a new improved three year deal to keep him at the club for a longer period. He has done well for us and still have a lot to do going forward. We are determined to do well next season in all competitions and having won the league with us last year, it was only logical that we keep him for  a longer  period,” said Rachier.

The Scott won the KPL title with Gor Mahia last season to end the club’s 18-year wait in a move that sparked great interest for his services. Williamson, has however, insisted he is going nowhere and is still committed to Gor Mahia.

Tenure in Uganda

Prior to joining Gor Mahia the Scott handled Uganda Cranes for five years winning the regional East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup three times in a row. In a related development Gor Mahia have finally landed Bandari hit man Shaban Kenga after convincing his former club Bandari to let the player go.

Kenga was released after Gor Mahia paid Sh400,000 transfer fee down from the Sh1.5 million the porters demanded.

According to Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana, the deal was sealed on Thursday following break-through talks between the two clubs.

“Bandari have finally agreed to let him go and this completes our signings for this season,” he said.

The Coastal side had appeared not keen to release their top striker who was voted runners-up in last year’s KPL player of the year awards.

Elsewhere, Sofapaka have completed the signing of former Thika United midfielder Clifftone Miheso. The youngster has been given a two year deal after agreeing terms with the club on Friday.

Sofapaka chairman Elly Kalekwa confirmed the signing and said they are delighted to bring Miheso on board.

“After many weeks of negotiations, we have finally landed our target.  He has been given a contract and we expect him to be influencial in our midfield,” he said.

Sofapaka have been wooing the midfielder for sometime now after he impressed with the national team Harambee Stars during last month’s Senior Challenge Cup held in Nairobi.
