Kitur tops The Standard County Golf Classic tournament in Eldoret

 Aron Kitur posted 42 points to emerge the winner of The Standard County Golf Classic tournament in Eldoret.

 Kitur beat his closest rival C. Gatua, also on 42 points on countback. A. Gujral came third on 38 points, followed by D. Gharwal on 38, I. Brooker on 37 and Adah Shah completed the six best overall on 36 points.

There was also good contest from A Chelagoi at 78 gross and F. Kahuruka who scored 35 points.

The best winners went home smiling as The Standard team led by Chief Editor John Bundotich and Corporate Affairs Manager Wanja Mwangi gave them fabulous gifts.

Wanja said the event was very successful with a high turnout of players. She promised that the company would organise another tournament in the town next year.

“I am happy for the warm welcome you have shown us here in Eldoret. I can see the room is packed and it has really encouraged us and I assure you that we will be here again next year,” Wanja said.

Fundamental support

Bundotich told golfers that the company had decided to bring the event in Eldoret because it is one of the top regions in the country, which has given fundamental support to the Standard Group. He urged the residents to support the youth.

“We respect you for the support you have given us. This journey started in Thika and today we are here in Eldoret. We are not going to end it here, our next golf tournament will be held in Muthaiga in December before planning for other areas,” Bundotich added. The daylong event was graced by several senior staff that included Corporate Affairs Executive Officer Cynthia Matee and Corporate Affairs Officer Naomi Kosgei.

Rare birdie

Meanwhile, a late rare birdie sank in the dying minutes was enough to steer the former Mombasa Golf Club captain Simon Wambugu to victory in the 2013 Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) tournament at Nyali Golf and Country Club  on Friday.

The 15 handicapper posted  a sterling 40 stableford points to beat a team 150 golfers and emerge the overall winner in the daylong event.

Wambugu started off on high note, posting a level par on the par ifth-first hole but dropped back-to-back bogey shots on the par five-second and the par four-third holes but recovered with back to back  level pars on the par four-fourth and the par five-fifth holes.

 “The greens were slippery but this has been by best game today since the year began,” said Wambugu.

Handicap 13 Dinesh Prakash was the men’s winner on a count back score of 38 points (20-20) after tying on the same points with handicap 14 Ben Mureithi  who was the men’s runners up.

The third placed slot was taken by handicap 14 Dominic Makau who had 37 points (17-20).

The lady winner was handicap 7 Diana Munyao on a count back score of 37 points after tying on the same points with handicap 20 Sheila Rust who took the runners up slot.

Handicap 10 B.Sawani was the guest winner on 37 points (19-18), while handicap 26 D.Ooko was the Runners up on 30 points (13-17).
