Gang targets computer laboratories in schools

Police have launched investigations following a spate of break-ins in secondary schools in parts of Kandara, Murang'a county.

The latest break-in occurred at Kiranga Secondary School on Friday night last week, where computers were stolen.

The gang ransacked the offices of the principal and bursar where they carted away valuables and cash.

The suspects also stole computers among other items from Charles Lwanga, and Wangai Secondary Schools.

Police have recorded a statement from the management of Kiranga Secondary School.

Kandara Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina said appealed to the public to volunteer information that could to arrest of the suspects.

"We are pursuing crucial leads and calling on the public to assist with information to arrest the culprits," said Maina.

Kandara Deputy Director of Education Josphine Thuranira said the matter is under investigation.

"Just come to the office we have a discussion on the subject," said Ms Thuranira.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man died after a blue gum tree fell on his house in Giuthunguri village, Wangu ward, following heavy downpour.

Charles Githinji succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Muriranja district hospital on Monday morning.

The incident sparked outrage with residents demanding felling of blue gum trees near houses to avert disaster.

Joseph Gachanja said a neighbour ignored pleas to cut the tree that was hanging dangerously.

Gachanja said the tree demolished the house and blocked a major road for hours.

"After the incident the local administrators directed that all the blue gum trees that have been identified as dangerous be cut with immediate effect," he said.
