Energy PS Wachira hailed, sets eye on transforming energy sector

Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira has been hailed and earmarked as a future leader who will help transform the Mount Kenya region and Kenya in general.

Speaking during Kamau's thanksgiving service in Kieni, Nyeri County, President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua praised the PS for his proactive engagement in politics and leadership.

President Ruto said Wachira has expressed willingness to learn from his seniors and at the same time ready to understand the landscape of politics and leadership in the country.

"Dear people of Kieni, I want to express my gratitude for your support that saw appointment of Alex Wachira as PS for Energy and Petroleum 'Wa-Total'," Ruto said.

The president added: "We are fortunate to have a leader like PS Alex, who has expressed a willingness to learn from my school of leadership, as we strive to nurture more exceptional leaders for our nation" the President said.

Before his appointment to the cabinet, Wachira was contesting for the Kieni parliamentary seat but was pursuaded through consultations to step down in favour of the current MP, Njoroge Wainaina of UDA.

Wachira, who has vast experience in cooperate governance and leadership, said he has a good working relationship with Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, noting that the ministry will do everything possible to transform the energy sector.

He thanked the president and his deputy for entrusting him with the position that holds key to the Bottom Up Economic agenda.

"I want to thank you for this privilege and I am happy that you gave me a good boss whom we are working together to enhance your agenda for this country," stated Wachira.

The PS revealed that he lost his mother at the time President Ruto was being endorsed as the Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate in March last year.

His mother, according to him was happy to see him align with the UDA party whose popularity had swept through the annals of Mount Kenya region.

President Ruto used the forum to thank Mount Kenya region for overwhelmingly voting for him.

"To our fellow Kenyans in the Mt. Kenya region, you have been true patriots. You helped shift our political landscape away from tribalism, and together we've achieved great strides," he stated.

The President noted that his government has fullfilled it's short term promises among them employment of 56,000 new teachers and drastically reducing fertilizer prices from Sh7,000 to Sh2,500.

The president launched a 62km road project in Nyeri, with over 250 billion invested for infrastructural development.

The government is planning to construct Narumoru and Muhoya dams to avert the water problems in Kieni and Nyeri at large.
