Police intercept illicit brew in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga intercepted a lorry transporting over 6,625 bottles of illicit brew packed in crates as the fight against the brew intensifies.

The consignment, police say, had been concealed with hay.

Officers from Kiamaciri police station in Mwea West managed to stop the vehicle which was ferrying 625 crates to various bars in Kagio town.

Mwea West sub-county commander Wilson Koskei said acting on a tip-off, they managed to nab the vehicle before the consignment was offloaded.

"Our officers were acting on a tip. We wonder how it was ferried from Nairobi to Kirinyaga without being detected," Koskei said.

Koskei said they have intensified the fight against illicit brew in the county.
