Oparanya urges Saccos to support community development

Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya has lauded Kenya National Police DT Sacco for its commitment to promoting sustainability and community development.

Oparanya commended the Sacco for its contributions to girls' education and environmental sustainability.

He emphasised the importance of cooperatives in driving economic development and addressing pressing social and environmental challenges.

"The DT Sacco dedication to empowering girls and promoting sustainability is a shining example of the positive impact that cooperatives can have on our communities," said Oparanya.

"I urge other cooperatives to follow their lead and contribute to building a more equitable and sustainable future for all."

The CS spoke when he joined the Sacco in marking global celebrations for the girl child in Gilgil.

The event saw over 1,000 international delegates drawn from 45 countries worldwide visiting Utumishi Primary and Secondary schools where the delegation had come to see the impact Police DT Sacco has had on the community and a commemorative tree planting exercise led by the CS and Police Sacco Chair David Mategwa.

With the Kenya Police DT Sacco's commitment to ensuring that girls are seen and provided with adequate resources to thrive, they showcased the recently constructed nine classrooms for use by the students at Utumishi Girls.

Earlier, the participants had converged in Naivasha for a week-long cooperative conference that ended remarkably with the planting of 15,000 trees at Utumishi Schools to mark the signing of the African Cooperative Savings and Credit Association (Accosca) climate action plan initiative.

In addition to these local initiatives, the DT Sacco has been actively involved in global collaborations to strengthen the cooperative movement.
