South Africa is mourning the loss of talented actor Mpho Sebeng.

The 30-year-old died in a car accident on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, in Potchefstroom, North West province.

Sebeng's family released a statement confirming his passing and requesting privacy as they grieve.

They expressed their appreciation for the outpouring of love and support but asked for space during this difficult time.

"The family of the South African entertainer, Mpho Sebeng, are saddened to confirm, to the public and media, that their son has indeed passed away.

"Mpho met his untimely death in the early hours of Sunday, 5 May 2024, due to a tragic car accident in Potchefstroom. Whilst the family appreciates the immense outpouring of love and condolences, the family requests some space to process the news," read the statement.

Sebeng began his acting career at a young age, starting at 12 and quickly finding success on television.

He was known for his remarkable performances and accolades throughout his nearly two-decade career.

South African audiences will remember him for roles in popular TV dramas like "Justice For All" and "Zero Tolerance."

He also appeared in the 2011 biographical film "Winnie" about Winnie Mandela's life.

Sebeng's talent was widely recognized. He received a nomination for Best Male Actor in a telenovela at the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards.

His work even reached international audiences through roles in Netflix productions like "Savage Beauty" and "Miseducation."

The news of Sebeng's passing has deeply saddened his colleagues and fans.

Actor Zola Hashatsi shared his grief, calling Sebeng a dear friend and colleague who will be greatly missed.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and Netflix South Africa also expressed their condolences, praising Sebeng's contributions to the entertainment industry and his lasting legacy.
