The Boxing Federation of Kenya President Anthony 'Jamal' Ombok is the new Africa Zone Three Boxing President.
Ombok beat Congo Brazzaville Boxing Association President Nkodia Kynd Gaetan 6-5 votes in a closely contested race pitting Anglophone and Francophone-speaking nations in elections done virtually.
Francophone-speaking nations had rallied behind Gaetan in the first round of voting for the vote to tie 5-5.
It was decided in the second round by the President of Burundi Boxing Association Eric Ndayesimiye who is also a director of Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) board after intense lobbying.
"It is a great honor to be elected as the President of Africa Zone 3 by boxing leaders from the zone. It is indeed a vote of confidence in my leadership and the work am doing together with my team in Kenya", Ombok told Standard Sports in a statement.
