Okwiri confident of flooring Ghana’s Allotey in Accra

With only a week to the World Boxing Federation Africa super middleweight title fight against Joshua Kpakpo Allotey of Ghana in Accra, former Africa Boxing Union super middleweight champion Rayton Okwiri is confident of victory.

The fight will be held on December 26 at Akoko-Foto, Dansoman in the suburbs of Accra.

Okwiri said he was not scared by the high rating of the Ghanaian boxer saying he was ready for another title having been stripped the earlier one by Africa Boxing Union (ABU).

“It does not matter whether he (Allotey) is a champion or not. What matters is how I’ll work on him and defend his ferocious jabs in order to win the title and become the next champion in the WBF-Africa ranks. Definitely, he (Allotey) knows that there is another tough boxer in the Eastern region of Africa,” Okwiri said.

Okwiri said he was a lethal pugilist who should also be respected and not be underrated in the continent and beyond.

“It has not been easy since I crossed over to the paid ranks and I have never faced an easy bout either. Therefore, the match coming up next week will not equally be easy but I will do my best not to disappoint my fans and ensure the title belt comes to Nairobi,” said the boxer who was stripped off his ABU super middleweight title last year when he participated in the African Olympic Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal against the African Boxing Union rules and those of the World Boxing Council.

Okwiri needs to win this fight in order to win favourable rankings from global professional bodies that could propel his ambitions of securing a world title fight.

After Okwiri knocked out Colombia’s Frank Munoz in the second round of an eight-round non-title fight in the USA on August 15, 2021, he said he was determined to win a world title before he retires.
