Floyd Mayweather's ex-girlfriend and mother of three his children Josie Harris has been found dead in her car by police.

The 40-year-old aspiring actress was discovered unresponsive on Monday night when police in Valencia, California were called at around 10 pm.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene with police not treating her death as suspicious.

Mayweather and Harris' three young children were named Koraun, Zion Shamaree, and Jirah.

Mayweather, who has a fourth child with another woman, was convicted of assaulting Harris in 2012 and served two months in prison.

He pleaded guilty to attacking his ex-girlfriend while two of their children watched in September 2010.

The boxer, who retired for a second time following his win over Conor McGregor in 2017, later said: "Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did.

"So if they say that's domestic violence, then, you know what? I'm guilty. I'm guilty of restraining someone."

Mayweather, who is believed to have dated Harris between 1995 and 2010, rarely saw his ex-girlfriend following his jail term other than when he collected the children in person.

In a 2014 interview with USA Today, Harris said: "(It means) I don't have to take a Xanax before he comes, otherwise I will be sweating bullets.

"For some reason I still get anxiety when I know that he is on his way. I have no idea why, but I get really overwhelmed when I know that I have to be around him."

Harris went on to recall the abuse she suffered at the hands of a boxer considered among the best of all time.

"I was a battered woman," she said. "I felt embarrassed about saying I was a battered woman. I felt shame. I felt like it was my fault. What did I do?

"I didn't understand what a battered woman was at that time. Now I know I was in a very dysfunctional, hostile relationship and a victim of domestic violence."

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's office said in a statement: Homicide investigators have responded to the death of a woman.

"The incident was reported Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at approximately, 10:00 p.m., on the 25700 block of Oak Meadow Drive, Valencia.

"The woman was pronounced dead at the scene."
