Kenya’s boxer Michael Nyawade said he was grateful despite a controversial WBO Africa junior featherweight championships loss in Ghana over the weekend.

Nyawade, an Administration Police (AP) officer popularly known as “Shaka”, in local boxing circles, lost the bout to homeboy Isaac Sackey in unanimous decision.

“I’m proud of my performance in Ghana against Sackey, however, I believe the judges were a bit biased in awarding the Ghanaian victory considering I dominate all the rounds. When they announced him as the winner I couldn’t believe it. In my mind, I knew I had beaten him well and even fans in the stand gave me a thumbs up,” said Nyawade, who is Kenya’s Bantamweight national champion.

He added: “I would like to thank the AP Deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow for the continued support as I embark on preparations for my next fight.

Nyawade, who made his professional fighting debut in 2009 is coached by Julius Owino of Pal Pal Gymnasium.
